Could it be possible that many Christians who see Israel as God's chosen people today are actually watching and/or supporting the anti-Christ? This presents an interesting concept as we see more and more in the headlines the events of the middle east. Today the church is divided on the issue of what we are to make of Israel. Dispensationalists and Christian Zionists claim God has one thing special for the Jew and another plan for the church. There is another growing voice in the church that says quite the opposite in that God has always had only one plan for His people and that His people are form all tribes and languages of the world. Of course the Bible really is not teaching that Israel is the beast with a head wound, but before completing the comparrison, I would like to present the realized millennial view of Revelation 13:
5The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise his authority for forty-two months. 6He opened his mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven. 7He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. And he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. 8All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world.
When John was given the vision by the angel the events were near and about to come. The Beast was Nero who persecuted believers during the neronic persecution from 64 A.D. to his death in 67 A.D. In this we don't see a future Beast as this was fulfilled back in the 1st century. The 42 months as mentioned above is exactly the time period when Nero martyred the first believers including (according to Church tradition) Paul and Peter. In fact Paul and Peter warned the early church of the time that was about to befall the whole church. I don't believe it was a coincidence that the time period is the same as in scripture. Also the mark of the beast, 666 is gematria. Ancient hebrew has no numeric system. Each letter also signified a number. Nero Caesar's name in Hebrew adds up to six hundred sixty six or 666. The 1st century believers who could read Hebrew(since Greek was the language mostly used) could calculate the number. It was Nero specifically who lit Christians on fire to light up his dinner parties, crucified and tortured thousands all on account of the name of Jesus. If a Christian simply denied Jesus he was spared a horrific death. Nero fits the description of the beast and the one who "overcame the saints for 42 months".
My concern is the allure of modern Israel on the world in general, but even more so is it's effect on Christianity. If modern Christians follow a Christ rejecting, and law breaking nation and still call them "God's elect" (contrary to scripture) then how is this not a modern delusion that draws people to practically follow an anti-Christ? Did not Paul speak against this in Galatians and other places?
Could it be possible that many Christians who see Israel as God's chosen people today are actually watching and/or supporting an anti-Christ?
Even if Israel grows into a great and powerful nation, always at war and winning, could this not also be what is described in Revelation:
Rev 13:3 One of its heads seemed to have a mortal wound, but its mortal wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled as they followed the beast.
Rev 13:4 And they worshiped the dragon, for he had given his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it?"
Rev 13:5 And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months.
Rev 13:6 It opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, blaspheming his name and his dwelling, that is, those who dwell in heaven.
Rev 13:7 Also it was allowed to make war on the saints and to conquer them. And authority was given it over every tribe and people and language and nation.
Israel, who seems to have received a mortal wound in 70AD miraculously is revived, causing the world to marvel.
Have we not heard "Who is like Israel" "Who can make war with her"? (6 Day war)
Are not many people "following" Israel? Even though they are in no Biblical sense people that should be followed but rather converted?
Are not people labeled with a "mark" for speaking against Israel? (anti-semetic)
Has Israel been given authority that it didn't have for a long time? Does it not make war with the saints (and non-saints)?
I wonder how many people would follow Israel if they build a temple an call fire down from heaven in the presence of men?
I sometimes wonder if Israel isn't a "test" of the faithfulness of Christians. Are people God's people by name only or do their actions have anything to do with determining this?
"Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son." 1John 2:22 (NASB)
For a specific account of how my a-millennialism affects my worldview, I'll describe my thought process about the Middle East situation. When I was a dispensationalist, I thought Israel could do no wrong. Further, I thought I was obligated to pray for and eventually help support Israeli & Jewish ambitions. But in my a-millennialism made me more concerned for the Palestinian church than political Israel.
To me, here is the real issue: How do we "see" God? How do we "see" Satan? Not with the eyes in our heads, but with the eye of the mind. What we believe about God as He has revealed Himself to us is where our understanding of God is formulated. A false god is not the little idol that a man makes, no it is his concept of who he thinks that represents. Satan is only able to deceive us in our minds. A mind that holds fast to Truth will not be deceived. It is not the many anti-christs of the world who only manifest Satan's presence in the world that we need be concerned about. But what they lead us to believe and do that is against the truth of God.
Every generation has had at least one satanically motivated leader rise up and wreck havoc thru charm and deception. This is nothing new. What is "new" and growing is demonic doctrines that promote a false view of Christ. If a false view of God has filled your heart, it matters not whether you call it "Jesus" or not!
Israel danced before the golden calf they had Aaron make and called it YHWH and sang their praises about His deliverance to it. We have statues that weep and bleed and speak false doctrines and people claim it is "God" speaking. You tell me, what is ALREADY going on here? The signs and wonders worked by false prophets are already present among us and people revel in it and praise "God". Millions of dollars are sent to these guys by CHRISTIANS. This is worship.
Secular humanism or a new age gospel - whatever tag you want to give it - I call it idolatry. The Anti-Christ many are looking for, is the demon that sits behind the idol - where you cannot "see" him with your eyes. But look around you and you will see that many have been deceived by him already. That is the mark of the beast that is upon them. And you cannot buy and sell in these ministries without it. Why is that? Because such men think that gain is godliness - their worldy measure of success.
Take a look at what the merchants in Rev. are mourning over that cannot be sold anymore when Babylon falls - their goods are the things that adorned the temple as well as the souls of men. This is what they trade in - "Christianity".
And this new thing has accelerated in the past 200 years. The inquisition, as evil as it was in causing death and destruction, is not near so evil as this deception that can cost men their eternal souls - and that willingly.
Satan's little season where he deceives the whole world to come against the saints is far more likely to occur in our day, than another Nero figure who rules the world thru death and destruction. Though I would not rule out that may happen as well. Christendom is so busy looking for this figure, that Satan is bound to comply - if only to keep us off guard as to what he is really about doing.
